Spring Cleaning

 Believe it or not the days are getting longer and spring may be here faster than you imagine. Spring cleaning is a great way to refresh your home from the winter blahs. Although it may seem like a daunting task, it doesn’t have to be if you prioritize and schedule your tasks. To make things a little easier, here are some tips that will help you shape up your home and free your time for the summer.

 

 

KITCHEN

*DUST REFRIDERATOR COILS. Located bottom of fridge. Can dust individually with cloth or use a vacuum crevice tool.*DEFROST THE FREEZER. Turn off power by unplugging or the temperature gage in the freezer. Let de-thaw. Take everything out and wipe with hot water and baking soda.

*CLEAN TOP OF RANGE HOOD. Often very greasy. Use a scrub pad or wet cloth. Clean with baking soda, vinegar and hot water.

LIVING

ROOM

*WASH COUCH FABRIC. If sofa cushion fabric cannot be removed, use very hot water, a dab of soap and scrub soiled areas with a scrub brush. If cushions can be removed read labels to best way to wash them. Can soak them in a laundry tub with delicate fabric detergent and scrub clean.*CORNERS, EDGES, BASEBOARDS. Move furniture away from the way, use a vacuum crevice tool to vacuum corner and edges. For baseboards, put hot water, vinegar, soap in a bucket and wash clean. Much cleaner than just vacuum cleaning.
BEDROOM *ROTATE BED MATTRESS. Turn your mattress to distribute the wear evenly.*CLEAN PILLOWS. Whether made of natural fibers (such as down) or synthetic (often polyester), most pillows can be thrown in the washing machine. This rids them of mold bacteria and odors.

 

BATHROOM *DISCARD EXPIRED COSMETICS AND BEAUTY PRODUCTS. Secure these items in a plastic trash bag, and keep it out of reach of children and animals.*GROUT CLEANING. Put straight hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle and spray your tile and grout. Then take a scrub brush or toothbrush and scrub grout and tiles to remove any mildew.

 

OTHER

TASKS

 

*COBWEBBING. Good time of year to rid house of all cobwebs. You can get a high duster from any hardware store. Start at one end of the room and work your way around. Check angles for cobwebs are sometimes hard to see.*WINDOW TRACKING. Remove mold from tracking in windows that develops from condensation. Put a mixture of half vinegar and half water in a spray bottle and spray the tracking. Wipe clean with a damp warm cloth.
