Happy New Year from Naturally Clean

Winter is here and as temperatures drop we start spending more time inside our homes and drinking a whole lot more hot coco. When we spend more time inside it is important that we maintain a clean living environment. Here are five winter cleaning tips to help you keep your home clean during the winter.

De-Clutter, Dust and Organize: During the winter we spend more time inside which makes it the perfect time to clean up around the house. Dust build-up in homes increases in colder months which can have a negative impact on your health and mood because it reduces air quality. Since clutter contributes to dust build-up we recommend focusing on cleaning cluttered and disorganized areas.

Protect your Floors: Salt, dirt and moisture can pose a serious threat to your homes floors. Entrance mats provide a first line of defense for your home’s floors. Entrance mats will save you time and money spent on keeping your floors clean.

Dust: Homes get very dusty in the winter because the air is so warm and ry. Dust your home’s surfaces from top to bottom to help keep the dust to a manageable level. Don’t forget ceiling fan blades, the top of window moldings, which can often be overlooked. Light fixtures also easily collect dust and can make your indoor lighting look dingy. This will make a difference in brightening up your room.

Window Cleaning: Winter is great time to clean your home’s windows. During the fall wind picks up and blows leaves and debris everywhere which can make your windows dirty. During the winter clean windows let more sunlight into your home and can save you money on your heating bill.

Remove Fireplace Ash: If you get ash on your carpet after cleaning the fireplace you first want to be careful to not rub the ash in the carpet.  Use a vacuum attachment to remove any access ash.  Next gently blot the area with a damp rag.  Continue blotting.  Note too much moister will cause the ash to clump making it hard to remove.

Clean your Furnace: Change your furnace filter once a month. This helps in maken your home more energy efficient, and keeps your air cleaner.

Final Note: Make a list of New Year’s cleaning resolutions to help you stay clean and organized for the New Year. Setting a monthly house cleaning schedule is a great way to keep track of your cleaning. Deep cleaning your home is a great way to improve the effects of winter, both physically and mentally.
